“In just 2 days, you’ll explore the most important attractions of Tunisia’s exotic south.
Day 1: Departure from the hotel around 7:30 AM. Travel along the Roman road that has connected the island to the mainland since ancient times. The itinerary includes:
Visit to Medenine, famous for its massive ksars (fortified granaries) where nomads stored grains and vegetables.
Toujene, where you can buy high-quality rosemary honey and handmade carpets.
Matmata, inhabited mainly by Berbers (indigenous North Africans), with a tour of the iconic troglodyte houses carved into rock.
Next, we head to the “Star Wars” town. We’ll visit the Sidi Idrisse Hotel (entrance included), a filming location for the movie.
Then, enjoy lunch at a nearby underground restaurant. Afterward, visit a traditional underground home still occupied by a family.
Ksar Ghilane (a classic desert oasis):
Optional activities: camel ride or quad bike on Sahara dunes (additional fee: quad: 30€ for 2 people / camel: 15€ per person).
Free time to relax and bathe in the thermal lake.
Sunset over the desert.
Evening: bread-baking demonstration on hot Sahara sand, followed by dinner with local music and overnight stay in tents.
Day 2:
Early morning sunrise over the Sahara and visit to the “green heart of the oasis” with its date palm groves.
After breakfast, head to the abandoned village of Guermassa.
Next, explore Tataouine, a major southern Tunisian city, with free time to wander and taste the famous “gazelle croissant” (a local pastry).
Final stop: the stunning salt lake “Sabkhat Elmaleh” (150 km²). On the way back, savor fresh fish at a beachside restaurant. Return to Djerba around 3:00 PM.
